Coming up onto the Promenade from the Remsen Street entrance, I was greeted by this welcoming figure (double click on image twice to enlarge). I believe this is a snow woman (see semi-profile photo after the jump). Either that or a snowman with long hair.

Winter Walk Photos
These photos were taken on walks yeterday (Friday) afternoon and this (Saturday) morning. The first was taken from Cadman Plaza East, looking west across Cadman Plaza Park, with lower Manhattan in the background. More photos and text follow the jump. Snowboarding on the slope between Washington Street and the Brooklyn Bridge on-ramp. The Manhattan Bridge […]
Fog In Brooklyn Heights
A view looking north along the Promenade, with the Brooklyn Bridge in the background. (Another photo after the jump.) Looking out from the Promenade, with Pier 3 in the foreground and the lower Manhattan skyline beyond.
Let it Snow, Redux
Saturday a week ago we had some snow; the following day, before it melted, your correspondent got this photo of some hardy ornamental kale, to which an ornament was attached, outside Dellarocca’s on Hicks Street near Montague. Today’s (Tuesday, December 24) forecast is for snow showers, beginning at 11:00 a.m. and continuing until 7:00 p.m. […]
Photos From a Night Walk Through Brooklyn Bridge Park
These photos were taken on the evening of Tuesday, December 10. The Empire State Building (Shreve, Lamb & Harmon, 1931), as seen from Pier 1, was illuminated in blue, in honor of Human Rights Day and Human Rights Watch. Ducks paddling in the spiral cove inland from Pier 2. Pier 5, lit up at night, […]
Let it Snow…
This is the view of Pierrepont Place from your correspondent’s window this morning. The precipitation prognostication is that this turns to sleet, then rain, later today or this evening, making for a sloppy, slushy Sunday.
Autumn in Brooklyn Bridge Park and Brooklyn Heights
Autumn is officially with us for almost another month, but it feels like, to quote a Joni Mitchell song, “winter’s closing in.” I’ve collected here some photos I’ve taken on walks over the past month, mostly in Brooklyn Bridge Park and along the Promenade, showing foliage nearing or at its peak fall dress. Above is […]
Obscured By Clouds
As seen from the Brooklyn Heights Promenade, a low lying cloudbank cut off the upper stories of lower Manhattan buildings, and brought to mind a Pink Floyd album.
Some Autumn Color at Brooklyn Bridge Park
After taking the tour of Pier 5 and the construction zone on Sunday, I headed north to Pier 1. While fall foliage is at its peak upstate, the warmer temperatures here mean it comes later. Still, there were some hints of fall evident along the way, beginning with these staghorn sumac leaves and drupes. The […]
A Tour of Pier 5 and Unfinished Parts of Brooklyn Bridge Park
Sunday at noon I joined a group of architecture and park enthusiasts for a tour of the completed Pier 5 and the still under construction uplands of Piers 4 and 3. We were led to Pier 5 by Brooklyn Bridge Park’s Senior Project Manager, Leigh Trucks (photo). More photos and text after the jump. As […]
