Has a Sign Guiding Visitors Fallen Victim to a Video Shoot?

While your correspondent has been nursing a slowly but (I hope) surely mending fractured ankle, his ever alert wife, Martha Foley, has kept a keen eye on neighborhood developments. Over a period since November, Three Pierrepont Place and the sidewalk in front has on occasion been used as a setting for the TV drama City on a Hill, the story of which takes place in Boston. This has involved, among other things, spreading fake brick sidewalk over the concrete, and removing street signs saying “Montague Street,” “Montague Terrace,” and “Pierrepont Place,” then replacing them with Boston street signs.
Kevin BaconThis allowed us, back in November, to get a photo of Kevin Bacon from our window.

The photo at the top of the post, again from our window and by my wife, shows a sign that has stood for some time near the corner of Montague Street and Pierrepont Place and that gives information about the neighborhood to visitors, being loaded on a truck before the latest City on a Hill shoot. We trust it will be returned. Update: Brooklyn Heights Association Executive Director Lara Birnback assures us the sign will be replaced.

I remember when the Post whipped up a story about how we were all offended by the sign. It’s part of their ongoing series: Stuck-Up Rich Folks Offended By Benign Thing—And Why that Makes You, Dear Reader, Better Than Them

Are there any other examples of this sign leftover from the MetroTech Business Improvement District campaign? Even MetroTech BID has changed it’s branding somewhat and is now managed by the Downtown Brooklyn Partnership. And MetroTech is now Brooklyn Commons at MetroTech, so all their signage has changed, too.

The film crew will replace the sign when the shoot is finished.

I guess the Heights is a stand-in for Beacon Hill or Back Bay in Boston. Very similar architecture but as Clyde notes, more charming sidewalks.

My favorite Brooklyn-Heights-as-Boston film is the 1982 legal drama The Verdict.

There’s also a Woody Allen film where Joralemon Street portrays Boston for a blink of an eye, but I forget which one.

Oh, interesting. Will have to check that out. The only Woody Allen in the Heights I know of is Manhattan, where someone was buying a sports car on Cranberry Street near Columbia Hts.

I remember now. It’s Bullets Over Broadway.

There is also a scene in Bananas shot on the Promenade.

Claude, ever thought of doing a “the-world-from-my-window” continuing series?

Here’s my 2018 photo of a film crew hard at work on Orange Street. Don’t know what they were shooting:
