Will Fourth of July Fireworks be Visible from Brooklyn Heights?

Update: Here’s reaction from local business owners. The Eagle reports that this year’s Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks will be launched from barges on the East River beteween 24th and 41st streets in Manhattan. Unlike the past two years, there will be no fireworks launched from barges anchored below Brooklyn Heights and DUMBO. The Eagle story quotes Macy’s as saying Brooklyn Bridge Park “is not a suggested location to watch the display due to its obstructed views.” It’s possible that a somewhat less obstructed view could be had from the Promenade because of its elevation above the level of the park. Those lucky enough to have access to rooftops on tall buildings might have a better, but still not perfect, view.

The answer to the question in the headline, though, is “Yes.” As the Eagle story concludes:

But fear not, Brooklynites. The Fourth Annual Jersey City Freedom and Fireworks Festival at Liberty State Park in N.J. will be visible from the Promenade and BBP.

With basically a week until the 4th this is the first I’ve heard this news. I’m sure that we are not the only ones who have people over to enjoy the fireworks. I guess shame on me for not double checking, but no one has bothered to mention this up until now?

I checked a Macy’s site several weeks ago and remember it as having stated that there would be barges near the bridge. Did I imagine this?

The fact is, even in years when the fireworks were on the Hudson and almost completely obstructed, that didn’t stop hordes of people from coming to the neighborhood to watch (and likely leave with disappointment). I’m sure this year will be no different, alas.

I too checked weeks ago and could’ve sworn I saw the same thing. Unless by chance they had last year’s information up still? What a shame.

No trip up to the roof this year on the 4th.

Does anyone know what time the “Fourth Annual Jersey City Freedom and Fireworks Festival at Liberty State Park in N.J.” fireworks are? I can’t seem to figure out from their website. Also are they worth watching from brooklyn heights?

No fireworks visable from BH? Wow Great no mobs of tourists and obnoxious, dangerous street kids….

But also notice that illegal patriotic displays have made a thrilling return…After all, who’s gonna listen to big red bird telling you not to enjoy and honor the 4th with your family….

The fireworks will be moved from Liberty State Park in NJ, closed because of the NJ state budget crisis. See story here on NJ.com:

Moved to just off Exchange Place which could mean even those fireworks will not be visible from the Heights. I can see some roofs with people waiting for fireworks that will never come.
