For those of you who think the library fight is folly ..please read today’s NYT article about Philip Roth’s donation to the Newark Public Library.
If the shrunken condo library ever happens there will be no space for accepting books from famous Heights writers of which there are many.
Instead we will have a banal condo tower and a mini library brought to you by greed, Mayor DeBlasio and Councilman Levin.Support our lawsuit.
Contribute at http://www.lovebrooklynlibrariesinc.org and on facebook. This misguided public policy will be stopped

Are you suggesting that they keep the current building and dedicate a room to acceptance ceremonies of books by local authors? Because it seems to me that whether it’s the old library or the eventual new, they can always find room for a press conference and a podium.

(Not to mention that while there are many talented writers in Brooklyn Heights, the only *famous* writer in Brooklyn Heights of recent memory was Norman Mailer and he’s dead.)

At the risk of annoying “Mark” with “the deliberate, and deliberately rude, clogging up of this week’s open thread,” Norman Mailer used to pass my house in Provincetown every day on his morning walk.

  • NeighboorHood

And Mr. Mailer probably glanced at your “house in Provincetown” as he passed each morning Dibs, and reflexively uttered his favorite line from Annie Hall… https://uploads.disquscdn.com/images/47179216bfead86e6566cfc563e3cff1aae7c3e1e1b1eff316a1de01f9031165.png

    What a nasty woman!

  • DIBS

So, at the risk of again being so rudely interrupted, are there any new restaurants in the neighborhood that you like? Even as far south as Atlantic Ave and nearby points in BoCoCa? Thanks.

Happy Birthday Hillary. I’ll get back to you when you post in the future NeighborHood. You really aren’t worth my time this morning.

I’d be curious as well to hear if anyone has tried the Argentine steakhouse that replaced Taperia/Eamonn’s redux.

  • Reggie

By “mini library” you mean the second or third largest branch in the system, right? I am always amused by the argument, ‘something happened someplace else and therefore it is probably going to happen here too.’

  • Andrew Porter

I really think any possible discussion of this topic was explored way too much in last week’s Open Thread. You’re only endlessly repeating the same words in different ways, and, frankly, I wish you’d stop.

I never said I wasn’t going to vote for her. Reading comprehension can be troublesome for some at times.

So how was the Sunday $100 a head fundraiser?

  • KXrVrii1

It already has a perfect 5 stars for all 10 reviews on Yelp so far. Looking forward to trying it soon. https://www.yelp.com/biz/la-barrita-brooklyn-2

They were all pretty good. Except the one from the patron who said her medium-well steak was too well done. She’d get thrown out of PeterLugers. LOl

Is that what it is this month? I’ve kind of lost track.

You think De Blasio’s got your back LOL.

Anyone been to Pair Wine & Cheese? http://www.pairbrooklyn.com The $14 roast chicken sounds like a very good deal!

  • ldny

Beasts & Bottles on Atlantic is fantastic. Pair on Atlantic is also great (not that new anymore, but still great). There’s a new coffee shop on Atlantic as well – Espresso Me – just opened, between Henry & Hicks (across from Table 87). They’ve got Toby’s Estate, Dough donuts and muffins, ice cream and WiFi.

  • DIBS

Thx! Will probably try Pair. Posted about it below after a friend mentioned it and liked it. Always looking for a good cheese course for dessert.

Great news from Brooklyn Heights Veterinary Hospital: Bailey, who got off her leash earlier this week, is home!

Yes, it’s good a very chill but fun atmosphere. Great cheese selection.

B&B IS very good, but in my limited experience (one time), seriously overpriced.

You can still rent rooms as long as you are occupying the place at the same time. Renting rooms for less than 30 days in unoccupied units was already illegal, this just makes it easier to enforce.

Look, I’ve enjoyed some cheap airbnb vacations. But it clearly has a cost to the local residents. Landlords take units out of the rental market because they can make more money with airbnb. And who wants to suddenly have the next door apartments be a hotel?

Perhaps a better solution would have been to let people rent out their apartments for 2-3 weeks a year, letting people make a little money when they are on vacation. But airbnb would make a lot less money in that situation, and lobbied for a much more aggressive position.
