We absolutely love the neighborhood, but we keep hearing this curious noise several times throughout the day that we cannot figure out the origin of (and no, it’s not the helicopters). It’s not bothersome or annoying in any way, but simply perplexing. I hope someone in the BH community will be able to help identify it and quell our curiosity.

The best I can describe the sound is a two-toned beep. It goes from a high-pitch to low-pitch tone, with each tone lasting only about a half second. I can’t discern any pattern of when it goes off. It’s loud enough to be heard from every window of our apartment. We have our own theories of what this is, but I’m hoping someone can shed light on the source of this sound.

Had to wait 5 hours, because of the time difference, to find out if my building was still okay. An unnerving wait. But everything was okay.

And here’s an image from that day:

I’m also wondering what people think about the Urgent Care signs up in the old Crumbs shop.

The official story: A scrapper admitted setting it accidentally with a blowtorch, while trying to remove pipes from the building. He did a year in prison.
The unofficial story, as told to me directly by “the man” in charge of nefarious activities in the neighborhood: The scrapper was paid $50k to admit to the crime. Someone else, a professional, started the fire. Reason; cheap way to demolish the building and collect insurance.

It must have been the F-22. One thing the Raptor is not, its not SOUND stealty.

Grand Canyon – high end burgers

…sorry, may not be new news…

By the way, I am glad the ice cream shop opened. But just to be 100% honest” it ain’t that great. Small portions like hagen daaz and the taste was kind of like low end Ben and jerrys. Wish it were a so-Co creamery…

I moved here in December 1995, when the St. George was still partly SRO or abandoned. Took many years for that part to be rehabilitated. The rumor I heard at the time is that it was intentionally set. True or false?

But what we have is first helicopters doing ecliptical flights and..many times take up stationary posts sometimes for over an hour. Try to sleep.
We also have fixed wing low level slow overflights. The #%&@ ospreys have also assumed fixed posts but for much shorter periods. The RF down links are on FEDERAL frequencies, and there is evidence that RF tomography is present. NONE of this is explained (or justified) by any criminal activity or any standard need.

Brooklyn Heights looks very nice from one, as seen here when I s̶n̶u̶c̶k̶ ̶a̶b̶o̶a̶r̶d̶ was invited to fly with the Marines during Fleet Week a couple years ago. They’re not the U-2; you see ’em and they know you can see ’em. Meanwhile, NYPD Aviation routinely does “directed patrols” of both high-crime and high-profile locations, at all hours. This may be a street crime-prone precinct, or a location that’s had stuff like blatant flag-swapping trespassers (i.e. the Brooklyn Bridge.) The Harbor Unit is out there doing the same thing—look for the pretty blue lights—but they’re necessarily quieter, and can’t see what’s going on on top of the towers.

I’m curious what’s happening with some of the empty storefronts in the area – Siggy’s, the former Andy’s space, the former Grand Canyon space. Any chance Friend of a Farmer might up the restaurant game on Montague a bit?

I’m all for frank and fair discussion, but WillowStreetWatch’s posts at this point have just taken over the comments section of the site. BHB, any thought on moderating out some of the repetitive nonsense? We see the same thing over and over, and we get it already. She doesn’t like helicopters and she doesn’t like development. Let’s talk about other stuff. Like Emack’s great ice cream. Like the article on when the Bossert will repoen in Brooklyn Eagle (2021 anyone?). Like when the rest of Pier 6 in Brooklyn Bridge Park will open and what is planned for Pier 5 uplands. Like when Friend of a Farmer is going to open and how great that will be. Like what the rezoning of PS 8 will look like. There’s lots of interesting, comment-worthy stuff going on in the neighborhood, can we cease being repetitive?
