The stamps are delivered within a week. I think a dollar is a small price to pay to avoid the “agita” of an in-person visit.

I tried to buy a book of forever stamps the last time I was at the Cadman Plaza PO. I walked away with nothing. The lobby stamp machines were ripped out, the stamp window had been cleaned out, and I don’t think those annoyingly-interrogative APM’s sell booklets. If they do, I certainly don’t want to wait behind someone weighing umpteen envelopes just to make a single purchase. Why has going to the PO become such a hassle?
