Random shout out of thanks to Arnie at Heights Vision who MacGyvered a pair of glasses for me after my 4 year old stepped on my only pair and broke the frames. I was in and out in 15 minutes with my old lenses popped into a diff frame.

I am looking for a recommendation to a good local shoe store. Very busy today as I now find myself needing to buy new shoes. It seems that after 49 years of not walking, this morning I can now take a few steps. While I’m happy at my new mobility, it will certainly require spending more money on footwear. I guess this is just one of those first world, able-bodied problems that I will just have to learn to live with and accept.

We think Zappo’s offers many colorful April options!

Does anyone know the status of the bjarke ingels platform that is planned for pier 6? I think the park people were saying that it is contingent on funding. I would love to see it get done, as the design is amazing: (http://www.nytimes.com/2013/09/17/arts/design/a-step-up-for-brooklyn-bridge-park.html?_r=0).

What size and congrats T.K. that is wonderful news. If 8.5, I have a few pairs I have never worn. Good quality to boot.

So I live in the North Heights. So every morning, starting at about 6:00 AM, I hear the faint sound of–something from the outside. Sort of like distant chanting. As if a group meets regularly in maybe Cadman Plaza Park to om-in the new day.

Does anyone else hear this? Know about it? Or am I hallucinating? Yet again.

  • ShinyNewHandle

Congratulations! Here’s hoping to many more steps.

How does one join the tennis club on Montague?

  • pierre

That is the Heights Casino. They might have a waiting list at this point, but give them a call to get the particulars on how to join.

  • ShinyNewHandle

Wait. What day is it today, again?

  • WillowL

A memeber has to invite you to join

  • Randy

I thought that might be the case, I am new to the neighborhood I appreciate the info…..need to friend some members :o)

    BBPC is still fundraising.

Noticed a Dos Toros Taqueria coming soon next to O’Keefe’s on Court street. Also Paris Baguette looks a week or two away from opening. Both welcome additions to Court.

Has anyone else noticed that the pavement on the promenade is in really bad shape now the ice is starting to melt away? It’s not surprising given the winter we’ve had but I wonder if the city Parks Department is aware of this. It’s second only to the Borough Hall area as an accident waiting to happen.

    Welcome to the neighborhood!

  • DoggieDayAfternoon

I’m a dog owner who finally went back to Cadman Plaza this morning after avoiding it all winter. And to my shock there were at least 8 dog owners and their dogs on the synthetic field.

Have the rules changed? Or are there just more dog owners who could care less about the rules any more?

  • martinlschneider

The rules have not changed but certain, irresonsible dog owners find it easy to break them and in effect disregard fundamental sanitary issues which directly affect the little children and others for whom the turf was intended.

  • dumbfounded

Among those irresponsible dog owners are those who congregate in Walt Whitman Park every day and let their dogs run off the leash at all hours of the day before and , particularly after 9 a.m. Not only is the sod of the central oval now destroyed, the dog owners have begun to use the Northwest “quadrant” along Cadman Plaza East, and that area already shows the effect.

  • ShinyNewHandle

The Promenade’s pavement (outdoor linoleum? What is this stuff called, technically?) is definitely disintegrating. I don’t think it’s quite the same quality as what it replaced in the renovation of a few years back, which seemed “stonier”, like paths you still find in Prospect Park.

  • Banet

Incorrect. The BBPC generally refers to the Brooklyn Bridge Park Conservancy. The Conservancy has nothing to do with this project — it belongs to the Corporation, the group that builds and maintains the park (the Conservancy is primarily focussed on programming, education and recreation). The Corporation is the one that are seeking funding for it.

Does anyone know what’s going on with Dumpling House? I’ve noticed it’s been closed for a long while now.

  • StudioBrooklyn

I was just approached by two people looking for 1 Pierrepont Place. I directed them to the building and they said “Thanks, it’s going to be Hillary Clinton’s new campaign headquarters.” I said “Are you sure?” They said “We’re definitely sure.” I said “Do you work for her campaign?” And they said “We work for NBC.”

    So there’s that.

Also, very sad and shocked to hear about John’s passing. Unknowingly, I saw the guy around the neighborhood, but didn’t realize he was Homer Fink. My thoughts are with his family.

  • Sen. Bob Forehead
  • StudioBrooklyn

Oh, good. NBC has Pierrepont Plaza confused with Pierrepont Place.

Anyone interested in playing badminton on regular basis? I’m thinking of starting a club that either plays at Pier 2, BK Heights or Dumbo.

What did you expect good and proper design and materials?
With a mixture of casino types and Brooklyn pols running the process? At the time of design and construction there was a carefully limited level of public comment and access. There is a very considerable range of technology exactly for structures which are subject to constant pounding vibration but a lot of these technologies were apparently not even considered.

    Parks Department, no?
