Some Scenes From The 2014 Atlantic Antic

Perfect weather encouraged a large crowd to attend today’s fortieth anniversary Atlantic Antic. Your correspondent enjoyed grilled sardines and Sangria in front of Chez Moi. Encouraged by a friend, he tried a salt codfish (bacalao) fritter prepared by the good people of Yglesia Antioqua, near Court and Atlantic. It was delicious, but aroused a thirst that had to be quenched by a Harvest Ale from Chip Shop’s stand.

Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez (at mike) presented an Ambassador of Atlantic Avenue award to retiring State Assemblywoman Joan Millman (right), as Democratic Assembly candidate Jo Anne Simon looked on.

City Council Member Steve Levin praised the merchants of Atlantic Avenue, giving special recognition to those who had been there longest.

The band in front of the Chip Shop was playing–what else?–covers of classic British Invasion hits.

There’s much to enjoy about Atlantic Antic but I have to say, the music there never does much for me. Not to sound like an old man, but it’s way too loud for a street fair. And there are too many bar-type bands playing classic rock hits.

Is that councilman Stephen Levin.. who is silent on the library destruction plan and lets Brad Lander (his colleague) speak for library destruction. Is that the same Stephen Levin that is represented by Berlin-Rosen. Is that the same Berlin-Rosen that represents Brad Lander.. Is that the same Berlin-Rosen that represents the Brooklyn Public Library.. Gee.. How interesting

Stop hijacking threads. A photo of Levin does not make this a library thread.

it is about berlin. rosen and levin aligning with them vs. the public

Don’t forget to complain about the loss of parking spaces for the day, the backed-up traffic, the new condos and hotels on Atlantic — oh, and how overcrowded the Antic will be when the wondrous new condos rise in BBP and on the site of dead LICH. Hijack the thread, Marsha!!!

Give it and us a break once in a while. Not everything on this blog has to do with the library. Posts such as this continue to increase your level of annoyance. Save your preaching and the shoving of your library beliefs down our throats for appropriate topics.

After attending the Antic numerous times over the years it has become a bit monotonous to me. Plus when it’s over 80 degrees outside the Antic can’t win out over going to the beach.

No Marsha, actually its a recap of a freakin’ street fair. It has nothing whatsoever to do with you latest bizzaro conspiracy theory.

Sometimes Marsha a street fair is, you know, just a street fair.

Not all bands play rock hits, viz. the fantastic blues band that plays in front of Pete’s Ale House every year (also plays there next Friday). Between 4 and 6 p.m., two women singers and two drummers sat in spontaneously. Unfortunately, the extraordinary guitarist Popa Chubby and another musician from the regular lineup are touring Europe and therefore weren’t present on Sunday.

I must agree that the loudness of the music takes away from its enjoyment! My friend and I luckily found a table at the Chip Shop, right next to the band. My fish and chips were fantastic (right out of the restaurant) but we found we could not speak to each other without shouting! Their playlist was great, in my opinion, so we just listened :-)
