My wife demands to know when there will be three functioning elevators at Clark Street, MTA mechanical dep’t: trust me, you do not want my wife pissed off with you.

  • Allison C.

Hi BHBers! I ‘m a 30yo looking to join an existing walking group or link up with a buddy for evening/weekend walks in the neighborhood. If you’re interested, I would love to hear from you. Thanks!

  • WillowL

It says august on the sign…. the elevator has been out for months now… ::: sigh:::: I HATE IT.

The diamond came out of my wedding ring and I need to get it re-set. Does anyone have recommendations for a jeweler?

  • BHinsider

I always go to the diamond district to get any jewelry repaired. On 47th there is a huge ‘mall’ called New York Jewlery Center. It’s #10 W47th. All the boothes in there have been in operation of generations. Have been to several and always good work.

Satnick Jewelers, State Street just east of Court.

Yawn. It’s a blog… lighten up a little… it is on topic because it is neighbor helping a neighbor find a solution to a problem.

Another car was broken into on Cranberry St (btwn. Henry and Hicks) last week. How can we keep our streets safe?

  • BHinsider

UM, ALSO, WHAT ARE THE RULES FOR ACTING LIKE A HUMAN BEING? LIST THOSE, PLEASE…

  • Hmmm

We can build a wall around the Heights and have a guard… That would be AMAZING. Just kidding, but serioulsy, we should take up a collection and have a private security car patrole the hood. Would probably stop all the graffetti.

  • johng

    Bad experience with Satnick

  • marshasrimler

    yes.. excellent work

Very interesting news about plans for Downtown Brooklyn coming from the Mayor’s office today… in the WSJ. BPL needs to reevaluate its library destruction plan in light of this story

We had a great week in Brooklyn Heights! We have lived in the neighborhood for more than 5 years but either weren’t paying attention or are seeing new things with a little one around.

    1) My 15 mo. daughter loves live music – the music, the instruments and the musicians. We were happy to watch the Bach cellist in the Borough Hall station across from the ticketing agent for quite awhile (part of the MTA muny program). He played very well and it was lovely.

    2) The Brooklyn Historical Society’s beer garden was great. After years of living in the neighborhood, I’d never actually ventured into their space. My daughter started dancing in the carrier about a block away when we heard the swing band playing. We stopped in and had so much fun.

    3) There is a great little jewelry/watch store on Court, next to O’Keefe’s. I never noticed, probably because he keeps his own hours. The jewelry in the store is vintage and beautiful.

    4) Cesar at the floral shop on Montague made my daughter’s night when he gave her a balloon. She also loves the kittens in there and I have found the staff to be great. They’ve re-potted a few plants for me this week.

Anyway, enjoy! It’s been great walking around the neighborhood so far for us this summer :)

Does anyone know if there is a walking group in the neighborhood? I would love to go for walks!

  • heights res

    How about fewer cars?

  • Justine Swartz

Love others as you wish they would love you.

  • Susan Raboy

So if there is no group we should form one. While way past my 30’s I too am looking for someone to walk with.

  • Susan Raboy

Downtown Bklyn population is growing so our governor & SUNY shut down LICH. We have too many “Walk-In facilities”. What good is free standing ER without hospital. Stay safe people…

  • miriamcb

I would definitely be interested. I may not be able to be so consistent because it depends on if my husband is home from work so we can swap parenting roles :) (we have a 15 mo. old)

  • MonroeOrange

And the disneyfication trend of NYC continues…OH no there is graffiti, oh no a car was broken into…its NYC that should be the worst of problems!

Security gaurd? this isn’t a gated community in florida.
Graffiti? remember when the trains were covered in graffiti, the graffiti is hardly an issue.

  • Allison C.

For those interested, feel free to email me at brooklynwriterac at gmail and we can coordinate. Looking forward to it.

Primarily in the evening to be able to see into the beautiful parlors!!!!

  • David on Middagh

There used to be a Community on Patrol volunteer program, partnered with the 84th Precinct and funded by the State (maybe others contributors, too). The civilian “patrol car” cruised around with flashing lights that deterred mischief. When the State didn’t renew its funding, the program shut down.

  • DIBS

It’s the car owner’s fault to some degree if they leave valuable items within visibility. That said, to say “How about fewer cars?” is really a tired phrase always trotted out by the greenie treehugger environmentalists, and, rather moronic.

  • BrooklynCoffeeLover

A/C faster than 2/3 to Fulton? I sometimes need the 4/5 and never know which to take. (live north side of heights)

  • David on Middagh

Yes, because the A/C is only one stop from Fulton. But the cars can be very crowded.

  • skb

The A/C to 4/5 transfer is absolutely the way to go. Cannot be faster. Stand at the very very FRONT of the A/C. One stop over, and you’re as close to the 4/5 transfer point as you can be!
