Maybe he’s talking about the anticaking agent that turns it blue? Tho’ that can be put in table salt, too, according to Wikipedia. Yikes.

I saw Glenn Markman, one of the owners, yesterday evening, He said he expects a re-opening in March, that it will look much better, and that there will be a new, better menu.

We ate there with friends Sunday evening. We had the guacamole with the little tortillas, which was excellent. The fish tacos were sublime. I liked the pork taco with habanera sauce, which may be a tad too spicy for some (like my wife). Like you, I wish the refried beans had more texture. I washed it all down with my favorite Mexican beer, Modelo Negra.

There were signs up for filming on Clark and Cadman Plaza last weekend.

That courthouse production is a movie called “A Most Violent Year”. (I asked, forgot the name, then refreshed my memory here:

Wow, I thought, anti-caking agents are those low-carb diet zealots.

Yes. I believe you get a free orientation with a staff trainer upon joining, maybe even once a year. I’ve never hired a trainer, but the one’s I’m friendly with–Al, Alex, Will (men); CB, Dani (women)–seem good from what I’ve witnessed. I think you buy a book of coupons, one per session, and that’s how you pay.

    Honestly, who cares?

Daily user of EA. Nice facilities, good locker rooms. Never been a victim of theft, which I hear is frequent at other clubs. Good weight room. Lots of treadmills, but they have frequent mechanical issues with the treadmills. One odd negative: the music they play. I am in there at 6am, and they play very sleepy music. Not what you want to be working out to (but I guess that’s what an iPod is for).

We were members for years and I loved it because it’s quiet. I did use the pool for swimming and since I’m not a swimmer, it wasn’t a big deal that it wasn’t a standard swimmer. The pool is usually very quiet at night and the hot tub is great. The sauna is nice too.

When we joined, we did get an orientation and first session with a personal trainer which was nice, too.

Sometimes you run into the college kids from the dorms, but they’re harmless. The staff was always very friendly.

The only reason we’re not rejoining this time around is because we bring our daughter to the Y for toddler swim classes and we have a waterrower at home now. Otherwise, I would. I enjoyed the very relaxed nature of this gym.

Because it was so convenient, I definitely went more often. They are very good about gathering paperwork for insurance, if your insurance reimburses for gym visits.

And re: membership costs – they not only have prime/non-prime but they also have membership levels based on your age. I think they have a different membership price for the college kids, but then young professional pricing and professional pricing. Last I knew, the cut-off for young professional was 25? (maybe it was 30 and I can’t remember). Either way, the people at the membership desk are very friendly and don’t try to upsell you.

Does anyone know if the Equinox on Joralemon has a squat or power rack?

Anyone else enjoying the DAILY car alarm that goes off on Henry Street? Is there any more pointless invention in the history of life than a car alarm that no one reacts to, and which simply annoys? Wow, I sound like a neighborhood curmudgeon, go me!

I remember when they had one of those operating on Tillary between Cad Plz W and E a few years ago. They drain into the sewer system.

Years ago they’d empty dump-trucks of snow into the rivers, until someone realized all the chemicals and oil going in.

salt doesn’t turn slush black but road dirt which is oil and burnt gas and dog poo and pigeon poo and tire residue, pedestrian blood etc is toxic. Plus the fact that road salt is not the pure white stuff you have on your table.

  • Eddyde

Wow, that’s some laundry list of pollutants. Not sure just how “toxic” they are, at least not in the minuscule trace levels on the bottom of your shoes. Consider a to move to the country, it’s much cleaner there.

  • MonroeOrange

Hey Peter…maybe NYC isn’t the place for you…didn’t you just complain about the fire truck sirens last week ;)

  • Peter Loibl

hahaha … you might be right! I now work in a home office, and I swear I notice the noise now more than ever. I used to be a pretty free-spirited, roll with the punches guy … damn you Brooklyn! :)
