Just saw this about an hour ago by the dog run. The guy was coming down that side-street at the bottom of the dog run, which was still pretty snowy, and smashed into the lamp post. Everyone was ok. The truck… not so much.

I also could argue that the media (including this blog) over hyping simple snow storms is a bit out of control. It’s a snow storm guys. We live in NYC, it’s January. Why is this a major deal?

If only we put as much attention to other areas of our lives as talking about the weather.

This just in from Florida:

Just to let you know that here in Stuart, Florida we’re dealing
with our own cold front. Weather is intolerable,wind chill factor and your
talking 54 degrees. All convertible vehicle owners have been advised to
keep their tops up. Let me tell you-it’s no picnic here. Many of my neighbors
who have toupee’s or walkers have been alerted to stay indoors. Because of
chattering teeth those with dentures have been advised to stay home. We’re
hanging in.

Will keep you informed.

Since when have snow events EVER had names? Hurricanes and typhoons have names, given to them by the appropriate government agency. Snow storms do NOT have names. The National Weather Service (NWS) hasn’t named the snow, nor has the National Oceanographic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA). It’s only The Weather Channel that has started naming every single snow storm.

You’ve probably heard it said that if you repeat something enough, people will believe it. Well, The Weather Channel has done such a great job with this publicity stunt that some news websites are actually reporting that this winter storm was dubbed “Hercules” by THE NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE! …. which, of course, is not true.

Interesting how the Weather Channel’s attempts to “brand” winter storms is catching on.
