We as a people should not force an entity to keep a facility open that drains millions and millions of dollars from their coffers just so we can feel good about keeping nurses and others employed. We live in New York City and there are more hospitals in a 10 mile radius than most communities have in 50 or 100 miles. Absurd. This is not a socialist society. Bill DiBlasio should be ashamed. Hilarious that he hops on this to try and get votes.

Does anyone remember developers and their enablers losing one? Our thanks to the community that stood up, to the nurses (individually as well as to their union), to the doctors, to Local 1199 and to Judges Baynes and Demarest.

Continuum has apparently decided that there’s nothing left to loot. Can we hope that a successful hospital (they exist) will decide to put it’s brand on it (e.g., North ShoreLIJ/Brooklyn, NYU/Brooklyn) and run a quality operation here?

I’m struck by how Justice Demarest actually took the time to stand outside LICH and watch as ambulances were turned away from the hospital, which helped her form her opinion.

But we’re not out of the woods yet. A responsible operator has to be found. Or created. And I can’t help but wonder if SUNY lawyers will appeal the decision, with so much potential money at stake if they could somehow prevail and sell the land…
