The problem with this race is that there is an actual chance of the Democrats capturing the State Senate this year, though the party seems to be doing everything possible to prevent that from happening! In light of this, a party line vote for State Senator makes more sense this year than usual.

true statement. boy i must confess i am really on the fence. I am definitely not a republican but both these guys are totally wet behind the ears. yes Squadron has a patron in Shumer but that is a bad thing, not a good one. I liek that Cromczak isn’t just a kid on schumer’s knee. he’s his own guy. but he is a republican and i also question what he will do for Brooklyn. Whereas Squadron actually lives here. decisions decisions. Can someone elaborate more on the policy differences between them at the debate? What was the biggest difference you saw?

Those of you mulling over voting for Chomczak should remember that a vote for him is a vote for keeping the Republican leadership, who are considerably farther to the right than he may be, in control of the State Senate.

Care to elaborate? How does a freshman senator who has only lived in New York City for four years take on power brokers? He won’t even be allowed to have conversations with those folks. For as much as Chromczak bitched and moaned about Squadron’s connections to Schumer, at least the relationship allows a freshman senator some clout to improve our neighborhoods.

I attended the debate last night. It was an excellent exchange of ideas. Thanks to the BHB for sponsoring it.

I thought John Chromczak did a great job articulating the issues — and showed his has the tenacity and passion needed to take on the power brokers in Albany.

I don’t regard Mr. Squadron’s use of the word fundamentally (and synonyms) as a “speech pattern.” I believe he genuinely thinks deeply, and it is one of the main reasons I wholeheartedly support his candidacy.

I was also quite impressed with Chromczak. His passion and ideas for his candidacy came through well. There is a good chance that I will vote for him.

Also, Squadron has a distracting speech pattern of relying on certain phrases and clichés. For instance, “fundamentally” and all variations thereof, was used in almost every answer. I started to think about that college drinking game which requires that a person drink a shot whenever a certain word is used. By the third question I would have been plastered!

Nevertheless, he will probably win.

Granted, this office isn’t very important – but honestly, are either of these guys qualified for any elected position?
The republican almost humorously distanced himself from his party (I kept waiting for him to call himself a maverick) while not allowing Squad any identity besides as a Dem. He has little knowledge of BK issues, and whined – a lot.
The democrat was condescending, spoke in platitudes, and generally didn’t excite me either. Riding in on Obama’s coattails with none of the charm.
