Missing Cat Day 30: The Search for BeeBop Continues

Despite a month of searching, Brooklyn Heights cat BeeBop is still missing. Have you’ve seen him? Owner Cathy explains:

He was last seen cornered in the basement of the Heights Players where he was suppose[d] to be kept over the long weekend. One of the “performers” did not want him there and allegedly left the door open. I have heard from my former super, the super at the Hts. Players and 2 different neighbors that somebody on Willow Place took him in. I can’t prove anything but … they say a young girl was ripping my signs down and throwing out the cans of food that were left for him. I miss him dearly. I’ve had him since he was 4 weeks old when he was a feral baby hiding in a tree. He could still be hiding under somebody’s bed. He’s an immature 2yr old male, neutered and with polydactyl paws.

If you’ve seen BeeBop or know of his whereabouts, you can contact Cathy at csfindbeebop714@craigslist.org.

Thanks for doing this! I don’t care who has him or why, I would just like him back. Please call 917-837-6899 if you know anything for REWARD.

  • The Huh?

I could have sworn I saw BeeBop on the menu at Great Wall the other night.

  • David on Middagh

There’s nothing like reading material to attract a cat’s butt.

  • Mickey

David, I have no idea what that means. Sorry. And I won’t grace the previous post with a comment.

  • David on Middagh

Mickey, I was reinterpreting that previous post that you won’t grace with a comment. If you’re a cat owner, you know what I’m talking about.

I hope you find BeeBop and that whoever “The Huh?” is gets served cockroaches in his next meal.

Luke c- thank you for calling out that insensetive person… I am a cat owner and it makes me so sad to know beebop has been missing. I will be looking out on willow st…sending good vibes your way !

  • bklynH

the huh- you are an idiot.

  • The Huh?

In all seriousness, I legitimately hope that cat and owner are reunited as soon as possible.

But surely a little levity is not such a bad thing in a time of crisis…after all, if we can’t laugh at the thought of our beloved house pets being served as food at unsanitary, dumpy Chinese take-out restaurants, what CAN we laugh at?

  • Cathy

Thanks everybody. This is the worst feeling in the world. Is anybody available to go check out the sighting down by Piers 2 and 3? Can you “the Huh”?

  • sunshinebk

the huh, I didn’t know someone’s missing cat was a joke.

I guess it’s been two months now since the search for BeeBop began. I have been researching the law of found pets. In case BeeBop is being cared for by someone who is reading this, and is deliberately not being returned to the original owner, I would direct that caretaker’s attention to this summary page: http://www.animallaw.info/articles/dduslostpetdisputes.htm#un8

    …especially this section:

Bailment Created Upon Taking Lost Pet

“When a person finds and takes lost property, an implied bailment is created under common law.[FN8] A bailment is a contractual agreement between the owner of the pet and its finder that the finder owes a duty to take reasonable care of the pet and return it to its true owner.[FN9] In turn, the owner of the lost pet must pay the finder compensation for caring for the pet before she has a right to recover possession of the pet.[FN10] As a general rule, a finder who takes care of lost property is a “gratuitous bailee” liable for breach of bailment only by committing an intentional tort or an act of gross negligence.[FN11]“

Thank you David. I know most people would have given up by now but I won’t. He was not intentionally left behind nor disregarded nor dumped. We searched and searched for him until the truck was packed and I was forced to get in. He came out of hiding that evening of June 30 and was still around July 1. Somebody has to know something. If you do, please contact me at 917-837-6899 anytime. Thank you.

I actually saw a cat between Pier 1 and 2 on Monday night around 8:45 PM. It came ouf of the bushes between the last two ponds on Pier 1 and crossed somewhere between the fence onto the area where the old cold warehouses stood. All I could see was the back of the cat (as in behind) that was black. Since it was running away I assume it was shy. I looked over the fence but could not see the cat mainly due to tall grass in that area. It might be worth having someone checking that out. I am frequently at the park but that was the first time I saw a cat there.

Thank you David and Someone. I am working with some of the rescue groups so I have let them know about BBP 1 and 2. I had heard that before about a cat colony down there.
BeeBop was never let out, dumped or forgotten. He got spooked by the movers (as did I). I searched and searched for him for 2 days. He was not seen until June 30 after I was FORCED to get into the moving truck. He was seen again the next morning. The trail goes cold after that in Willowtown. It’s very possible that he made it down there. He was wanted, he is missed and I will NEVER give up looking for him. I could not come back until last week due to surgery. I take no pleasure in posting my personal business on this and appreciate everybody’s support and concern and the use of this forum. I really want my beloved pet back. I can be reached at cathysheehan30@gmail.com and 917-837-6899 Again, there are many people ready to help out and take him in until I get there. Thank you.

  • Cathy

@Someone: Can you be more specific as to where you were. I know you are very specific but some of my friends want to go down there and are getting confused. THANKS!
